Introduction
Ceftazidime belongs to a class of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics. It is a semisynthetic, broad-spectrum, beta-lactam antibiotic for parenteral use. This drug is the pentahydrate of pyridinium.
Drug Indications
Ceftazidime is used to treat infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms. Dosing Information

The usual adult dose for bacteremia is 2 g IV every 8 hours for 14 days. To treat meningitis, 2 g IV every 8 hours for 14 days has been recommended. To treat Sepsis in adults, the dose will be 2 g IV every 8 hours for 14 days. Endocarditis patients can take 2 g IV every 8 hours for 6 weeks or more. For the treatment of Endometritis, dose of 2 g IV or IM every 8 hours has been suggested. This drug also treats other medical conditions.
Ceftazidime injection is given into a muscle or vein. It is administered by professional under strict medical supervision. If you want to use it at home, follow your doctor's directions exactly as prescribed.
If your medication was supplied in a frozen form or was freezing after mixing, defrost it in a refrigerator or at room temperature instead of using a microwave or boiling water. Use the medication immediately possible after melting it.
Side Effects
Side effect can not be ignored by using this drug. Precautions
This medicine should not be applied in patients having allergy to ceftazidime, or to similar antibiotics, such as Ceclor, Cefzil, Ceftin, Duricef, Omnicef, Keflex, Spectracef, Suprax, and others.
Ensure your doctor knows if you have a stomach or intestinal disorder, liver or kidney disease, heart failure, diabetes, cancer, or if you are malnourished.
Ceftazidime can reduce efficacy of birth control pills. Consider about using a non-hormone method of birth control (such as a condom, spermicide and diaphragm) to avoid pregnancy while using it.
Use this drug for the full prescribed span of time although your symptoms improve. Do not use it to treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
