Generic Name: Metformin HCI
Use
Metomin (Glucophage) is used to help manage Type 2 diabetes and keep the patient?s
blood glucose within their target range by helping the body produce less glucose
from the liver. Metomin (Glucophage) has been found to lower blood fat levels
and possibly contribute to minor weight loss.
How to take it
Take with meals, once, twice or up to three times a day. Be sure to check with
your health care provider about how often and how much to take.
Side effects
The most common side effects are diarrhoea, nausea, stomach upset and symptoms
of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), such as lightheadedness, dizziness, shakiness,
or hunger may also occur. Serious side effects are very rare and occur mostly
in people whose kidneys or liver are not working normally. The most serious
side effect is lactic acidosis. It may be life threatening. Your health care
provider will check your kidney and liver function to determine if you are at
risk.
