Introduction

Generic Ultravate (Halobetasol Propionate) Cream is applied for a variety of skin conditions (e.g., dermatitis, eczema, allergies and rash). It decreases the symptoms like itching, swelling, and redness caused by such diseases. This medication is a corticosteroid with super high potency. It is also available under the brand name Halovate, manufactured by Gracewell.

Dosing Information

Ultravate (Halobetasol) is for external use only. Pursue the guidelines on the prescription label. Your hands should be washed before and after use. Cover up the affected area with a thin film of medicine. It should not be covered with a bandage or dressing unless told by your health care professional. It should not be applied on unaffected skin or over large areas of skin. Keep off eyes. If it happens, clean out with plenty of water. Do not apply more medicine and more often than you are told. Consult with your pediatrician about the use of this topical in children. It may need special care.

Drug Overdose & Missed Dose

If you happen to use too much of this topical, call a poison control center or emergency room at once. If you unknowingly miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. But don't apply more to make up miss doses.

Drug Side Effects

A number of side effects are associated with the use of Ultravate. Talk to your health care professional if you observe any of this: delayed healing of the skin condition, serious burning and constant itching of the skin, painful, red, pus filled blisters on the skin or in hair follicles, vision changes or thinning of the skin with easy bruising. Some less serious adverse effects are burning, or irritation, itching, scaling or increased redness of the skin.

Drug Interactions

There are some potential drug interactions of this topical. Keep away from starting, stopping or changing the dosage of any drug before asking first. Before using this topical, your pharmacist must be acquainted with all prescription and nonprescription and herbal products you may use. This is essential especially for oral corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), and drugs that restrain the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine).

Drug Precautions

Notify your health care provider if you have any of these conditions: any type of active infection, thinning of the skin, circulation problems or vascular disease, large areas of burned or damaged skin, pregnant or trying to get pregnant, an allergic reaction to Halobetasol, other medicines, foods, corticosteroids, dyes, or preservatives, or breast-feeding.

Seek advice from health care professional if your symptoms do not show improvement within one week, or if you feel skin irritation from the medicine. Tell health care provider if come in contact with patient with measles or chickenpox, or if you feel sores or blisters.

Storage Tips

Generic Ultravate should be stored at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C), away from children and pets. Keep it away from light and moisture but not in the bathroom.
